Diary of Alberto Dias Soares, 1855-1856 [manuscript]. 1855-1856.

One volume is an original diary written by Soares documenting his life in Australia. He writes about his work as a lay assistant to Reverend Robert Cartwright, his daily duties and the people around him. The second volume is a full contemporary transcription of the diary, of which provenance is unknown.

Alberto Dias Soares was a Church of England clergyman and church architect. His work as a church architect included designing a new stone church for Queanbeyan in 1860, and a Gothic stone church for St Philip's in Bungendore, opened in 1865. His other designs included Christ Church Cooma, and the Anglican churches at West Goulburn and Wentworth and the Presbyterian church in Queanbeyan.
